DREAMCOLOUR
INNER WORSHIP C60 (STUNNED RECORDS)

"If there is one group that has emerged from 2009 which best embodies the Future, in our mind it would be California’s Dreamcolour. We were hooked ever since first checking their righteous live actions, their early cdr & taped treats, and their uncontainable offerings of jazz and drone’s most mystical sides. ‘Inner Worship’ finds this intrepid tribe bloomed out to a 9-piece at times, shooting for nothing less than Sacredelica in the raw. Yes, an entirely new genre seems ripe for carving here after one gets wet with this hour long wave. Dreamcolour operates with such an impressively cohesive front that they take the meaning of “unity through sound” to the next fractal notch. The sweaty saxophone bop, orbital viola lines, and holy hollers of Side A impressively distill to a pinpoint of mass mind mantra on Side B. Like hearing all individual parts of an explosion reach their expressive boundaries and then implode into a singular, refined meditation. When these sun-risen modes of the Inner are visited here (and that’s quite often) don’t be surprised if you find yourself grabbing the nearest instrument at hand, becoming a temporary 10th member of Dreamcolour, and worshiping right along.
Limited special edition of 100 pro-dubbed & imprinted c60 tapes with double-sided color art in vinyl album." -stunned

REVIEWS

"Dreamcolour is one of the only bands in the independent circle that can combine a number of sounds into one that they can call their own. They are well known at the moment, yet avoiding any 'hot music trends' that so many people can’t seem to get enough of. Dreamcolour in fact, are sort of a back-to-the-past band (minus the drone incorporation). They have a certain psychedelic, proggy, and free-jazz feel in their music which is used numerous times in their recordings even though they manage to never sound too repetitious with their style. Their sound is sort of like Bitches Brew if Miles Davis and his band did some really heavy LSD before recording and bought a bunch of guitar pedals.

Inner Worship documents that insanity, stretched-out to an hour in length. Side A of the tape is just one huge song (“Praying”) and the title matches the jam perfectly. It begins with a fun 70’s-tinged psych rock fiesta, but suddenly, it turns into a Skaters song. Everything is played at least 50 times slower than it was before with bongos (and even a harmonica) being played in the midst and a blaring saxophone going off in the background as the drone’s volume and speed slightly increase to the point where you think there’s going to be some kind of freak-out brewing, but it becomes this slow, melodic ballad(?) that relaxes you till it fades to silence.

I flip the tape over to B and it begins with “Worshiping,” a feedback-laden symphony where the only thing remotely keeping rhythm is a single bass note. It gets really dark by Dreamcolour’s standards, and by that I mean it’s almost a Sunn O))) song. As for the final jam, “Repenting,” I think it’s the jazziest song on the tape. The constant ride cymbal hits, the saxophone collaboratively keeping rhythm with the drums, and of course the funky bass line. And what better way to end a jazz song without a spacey outro with laser noises and completely dropping the jazz mood? This is probably the most epic tape I have in my collection." -Electronic Voice Phenomenon
